Excuse me while I wipe the dust off this old thing. Hi.  How are you? How have you been?  I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve blogged.  But honestly, I just didn’t have it in me.  No inspiration, no drive, no will to write.  So, here it sat.  Ignored, abandoned, left to gather dust.

But, I’m back. And I think I’m ready to tackle writing again.

I thought I would kick things off with an update of sorts.  So, grab a cup of coffee (or tea, if you prefer) and pull up a chair.

All Things Hess

img_20160728_201358We’ve had a busy, busy summer.  Zoe finished 4th grade around the middle of June and headed straight to KY to spend a few weeks with my family.  She rode horses, went to ball games, got new clothes for school (thanks Mom!), went to church camp and played outside until she dropped.  She came back home for a couple of weeks and spent time with us and with her sister, Haley, who kept an eye on her while I was out of state on a business trip.  Then she headed to SC to spend time with her other grandma and well, let me tell you, that child has been a traveling fool this summer.  Her social calendar was WAY more intense than mine or Shannon’s.  She started 5th grade a couple of weeks ago and seems to be really enjoying it.

She’s really growing.  In all the ways.  She’s about 5’1″ at 9 years old.  Gulp.  Her personality is quite amazing and frustrating all at the same time. One of these days she’ll be able to use that for the greater good, but for now, she’s 9 and we are having to nurture that side of her with much patience.  Much, much patience.  She is learning guitar (on her own!) and practicing her vocals.  I love hearing her practice and trying out new things.  And that laugh.  Wow.  That child can make us laugh.  I love it!

Shannon and I were able to grab a few days away in NYC around 4th of July.  It was my first time to the Big Apple and WOAH! It was intense, fun and exhausting.  I think I’m okay with not going back for a while.  Three words:  No. Personal. Space.  At the end of July we headed to Daytona Beach for a week (it was my 45th birthday – ugh) and had an amazing time doing nothing – no agenda, no plans, no lists.  We spent the day on segways in St. Augustine, watched ALL of the Bourne movies, ate seafood until we couldn’t eat any more and slept – a lot of sleeping.  It was hands down our best vacation ever.0702161953a_hdr

Work has kept me pretty busy as well.  I’ve been traveling quite a bit lately.  I’m not a big fan of the drive, or flight, but I really am enjoying teaching/training real estate agents how to use systems to make their jobs more lucrative and easier to manage. Not to mention, the extra money has been a blessing.

I guess our biggest family news to date is that we are going to Haiti in January.  What?! Yeah.  Haiti.  We are joining up with New Day Knightsville to minister at a ladies’ conference there.  It will be my very first missions trip and my very first time preaching with an interpreter. GAH!  I’m nervous about that part.  But I am so stoked that Shannon and Zoe are coming along and that we will be able to pour into the Haitian women!  We’ve set up a Go Fund Me Page for donations.  You know.  If you want to donate or something.

Logo 300x300We’ve been in Waynesville, NC for about 20 months now.  Hard to believe.  Some days have gone very slow.  Others have flown by.  We are steady building relationships, meeting people, getting involved in our community.  It’s a beautiful, small mountain town and we are absolutely in love with it.  Church planting has had its ups and downs, which is normal, but we are ready for more ups, for sure!  One new thing we are doing is a school of ministry – a pilot school called Wellspring Core Values Training.  It’s a condensed version of the Wellspring School of the Heart that is currently happening in 3 states and 2 other countries.  Our school will last through December and focuses on the Father’s Love, Intimacy, Restoration of the heart and Evangelism.  We are breaking those down into 4-6 week modules.  We have 7 students, and we are excited about that!

I turned 45 last month. I can’t even believe I’m typing that. There’s so much to say about that but I’m not quite ready to put pen to paper with my thoughts.  But I will soon.

So, yeah.  There it is.  An update.  Nothing earth-shattering or crazy.  Just us and our lives.

Until next time,

M.
